When I was just single again after a relationship with a girlfriend that was 10 years younger than me I came into contact through Hotmail Personals (no idea if that stull exists) with a woman called Marcie. Marcie lived in the United States of America, in Washington, but not the Washington where he White House is situated, but Washington in the state of Pennsylvania.
And Washington, PA is situated about 40 miles South of Pittsburgh, there where the states of Pennsylvania, West-Virginia and Ohio come together.
We had contact through email (logical with a Hotmail Service) and it was very friendly, both ways. Marcie was an US resident but for a US resident she had a very European point of view. Which only made me like her more.
She was divorced and she had a daughter, Ashley, who was 6 at the time.
So very nice emails to and from eachother and Marcie made no secret of the fact that she liked me very much.Even more, at a certain moment she started talking about marriage, she even already knew who her maids of honour would be.....
It's good to know that I was doing wel in that time. A good job that paid well, no debts beside the mortgage and after the relationship mentioned above ended I bought the apartment where I am still living today.
Besides emailing we also talked on the telephone. I called Marcie almost every Saturday, calling from the Netherlands to the USA is a lot cheaper than the other way around.
The telephone conversations were also very friendly and very nice!
And when I asked Marcie if she would like it if I came to the US to visit her her reaction was espscially positive.
We agreed on a week that that would be posible for both of us and it would be the week inbetween Thanksgiving and Sinterklaas ( Saint Nicolas, Dutch traditional children's event on December 5th).
So I went searching for a flight and a rental car and I found a flight with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to Pittsburgh via Detroit. The leg from Detroit to Pittsburgh would be operated by NorthWest Airlines, the US partner of KLM.
Off course is was exiting to go there, not so much to the US, I had been there before and always liked it. But meeting Marcie in real life was very exiting and making me even a bit nervous.
